My great grandparents

This is the wedding portrait of my maternal great-grandparents, Fred and Augusta Bertrand Schneider. They were both born in Cincinnati, he in Aug. of 1878, and she in Feb. of 1879. They met at a Sunday church picnic, and were married on March 21, 1900. They had 5 girls, Freida, Augusta Ann (my grandmother), Jeanette, Louise (nicknamed "Boots") and Mildred. Grandpa was the first sauerkraut maker in Cincinnati and had a stand at the Findlay Market, an open-air market that still exists today. They had a cook, hatmaker, and seamstress. At one time Grandpa was listed in Dunn and Bradstreet as being worth $250,000 (early 1900's). He helped many German immigrants by loaning them money and between that and his love of horse racing, he only had our farm left when he passed away in 1940. Grandma lived to see me born and then died in 1954. Aunt Boots developed breast cancer and died in January of 1954. Heartbroken, my Grandma Schneider died less than 2 weeks later.

I can honestly say we don't resemble either of them!
