Over the Ashley River and through the woods, to Travis's house we go . . . . . If you look below, you can see the slideshow from our Thanksgiving. We loaded up food, turkey fryer, Dixie, etc. and looked like we were moving, instead of going for 24 hours! Poor Amber didn't feel well at all, and I have been there, so I had a lot of sympathy for her! After unloading, we got in Travis's car and headed for the James Island Holiday Light Festival. We had gone last year and couldn't believe how really nice it is! It's 3 miles of over 640 displays! Zach was mesmerized from the time he saw the first light. Halfway through, you can stop at Santa's village. Santa was kind of scary looking, so we just pointed him out. We walked through the woods and some displays to buy our tickets for the train. We ended up waiting almost an hour for the 15 minute ride, but it was worth it. Enjoyed some snacks, looked at the Gift Shoppe, and then rode the train. We got some painted sand dollar ornaments and a mug and walked back to the parking lot. Travis jokingly said, "Hey, there's my truck!" Yea, right! It WAS his truck that he had traded in on the Expedition. I know someday he will probably have another one. We had him pose with it and then started driving through the rest of the lights. Our goal was to go and get some Chinese appetizers, but it was closed! Then we went to Popeyes, waited in line way too long and Bruce cancelled the order with a refund. Bessingers, home of the wonderful onion rings was closed, too. Got Amber some chicken noodle soup and orange juice and went back to order from Ruby Tuesdays. So . . .eating at 10:00. A little too late for the AARP people. But we know what to do next year at the family reunion! Thanksgiving Day was nice and sunny and in the low 70's. Bruce and Travis left around 5:30 to deliver Nathan and Ashley their Christmas present -- a picnic table built by Dad and Travis. Bev fixed some bacon and eggs to go with the muffins Amber had. Then she took Zach on a mile walk to the end of the battery where Travis lives. Have to research some more on the history of this Confederate earthwork. Bruce and Travis deep fried two turkeys and we ate on the deck in a screened in canopy (still a few flies). We absolutely made too much food, but I was glad since Amber needs a few days of rest and they would just have to warm up food. We had fried turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, green beans, yeast rolls and butter, garlic mashed potatoes, jello salad, and pumpkin roll for dessert. Our appetizers that day were hot crab dip by Dad, cheeseball by Mom, pumpkin dip with ginger snaps by Mom and Amber had a wonderful fruit and veggie trays (actually two of them full!)
We had Travis take our Christmas picture by a tree with Spanish moss by the marsh. We ate, cleaned up, took a couple of pictures, and loaded back up for the drive home. This time we took the back way, going up Highway 52 to Greeleyville. Beautiful sunset and we were home around 5:30. We've been relaxing and "puttering" around, trying to clean up for another week of work and school. Hope everyone had a great holiday!
